Teams voice for GCC tenants: What you need to know

Microsoft Teams is a powerful collaboration tool that enables users to chat, meet, call, and work together in one place. Teams voice is a feature that allows users to make and receive phone calls from Teams.

In this blog post, we will explore Teams voice for GCC tenants, a special type of cloud service that meets the compliance and security requirements of US government agencies and their partners.

Initially, we will focus on the E911 feature, which is a mandatory requirement for Teams voice users in the United States, as well as some of the recent announcements in the GCC, which are frequently mentioned by many customers. Please feel free to suggest a topic which you would like us to cover in the future on our blog.

Important Announcement: User licenses aren’t supported for use with meeting devices. User licenses that have been assigned to teams meeting devices need to be replaced by an approved Teams Rooms license prior to July 1, 2023. Meeting devices that do not have a Team Rooms license after July 1, 2023 will be granted a 90-day grace period ending on September 30, 2023. After the 90-day grace period, devices will be blocked from signing in until a Teams Rooms license is assigned. Also, Microsoft Teams Shared Devices licenses aren’t supported on and won’t work with Teams Rooms devices. Teams Rooms devices should only be assigned Teams Rooms Basic or Teams Rooms Pro licenses.
